Prolonged government and political interference within the Sri Lanka Cricket Board has been the primary reason for this decision. According to ICC regulations, every national cricket board is required to operate independently, completely free from government or political pressure.

Prakash Schafter, Secretary of the Sri Lanka Cricket Transformation Committee, has confirmed the news. Speaking to the 'Sunday Times', he clarified that the tournament would no longer be held in Sri Lanka. He stated:
"The Women's Champions Trophy has been moved out of Sri Lanka. The tournament will now be played at a different location, although there is currently no official information regarding what the new venue will be."
