Shubman Gill sustained an injury to the ring finger of his right hand during a net practice session in Colombo on Thursday. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) shared an official update on social media, providing clarity regarding Gill's fitness status.
The BCCI stated in the post: "Captain Shubman Gill sustained an impact injury to his right ring finger during India's practice on Thursday. As a precautionary measure, he will not take the field on Day 1 of the warm-up game against SLC XI. The BCCI Medical Team is monitoring his progress. KL Rahul will captain the team in Gill's absence."

This three-day warm-up match is vital for the Indian batters ahead of the two-match Test series commencing on August 15. Being played at the Nondescripts Cricket Club (NCC) ground in Colombo, the primary objective for the Indian batters in this warm-up game is to refine their strategies against Sri Lankan spin bowling and acclimatize to the playing conditions.
