Sir Garfield Sobers was set to celebrate his 90th birthday on July 28, but he bid farewell to the world before that day arrived. Sobers played 93 Test matches for the West Indies, scoring 8,032 runs across 160 innings at an extraordinary average of 57.78. His Test record includes 26 centuries, 30 half-centuries, two double centuries, and one triple century.
His highest score was an unbeaten 365, which stood as the world record in Test cricket for many years. He also excelled with the ball, claiming 235 Test wickets at an average of 34.04 and an economy rate of 2.33. He played only one One Day International (ODI) in his career; while he did not score any runs in that match, he did take a wicket.

'Master Blaster' Sachin Tendulkar shared a deeply emotional post recalling the moments he spent with Sir Garry Sobers. Sachin stated that it was incredibly difficult for him to come to terms with this news. Sharing his memories, Sachin wrote, "It is incredibly hard to accept that Sir Garry is no longer with us. I have been reflecting on the memories we shared, especially when he presented me with the 'Player of the Tournament' trophy at the 2003 World Cup and spoke such affectionate words while honoring me. He was always so kind and generous."

Recalling his final meeting with Sobers in London, Sachin said, "My mind keeps going back to the moment we met in London a few years ago. We were simply sitting and talking about cricket. It is deeply saddening to realize today that it was our last meeting. He was truly one of a kind. He will be deeply missed. Rest in peace, Sir Garry."
