IND vs WI:The T20 series against the West Indies presents a massive opportunity for Team India captain Shreyas Iyer. This is because he has the chance to achieve a feat in this series that neither Virat Kohli nor Suryakumar Yadav managed during their respective captaincy stints.

Shreyas Iyer has the opportunity to surge ahead of the rest. You might be wondering what exactly is this opportunity? What is it that Team India's T20 captain can achieve against the West Indies?

There is no one quite like Rohit Sharma

Shreyas Iyer has the opportunity to match Rohit Sharma's record during the five-match T20 series against the West Indies. Rohit Sharma holds the record for the most consecutive T20 victories as India's captain.

Under his leadership, India won 11 consecutive T20 matches in 2024. His record from 2019 to 2022 is even more impressive; during that period, he led India to 14 consecutive T20 wins.

In other words, Rohit Sharma has achieved the feat of leading India to 10 or more consecutive T20 victories not just once, but twice—making him the first Indian captain to do so.

Iyer currently stands on par with Virat and Surya

Speaking of Virat Kohli and Suryakumar Yadav, both have won nine consecutive matches while captaining T20 teams. Virat Kohli achieved this feat in 2019–20, whereas Suryakumar Yadav accomplished it just last year.

Shreyas Iyer currently stands alongside Virat and Surya; he, too, has led India to nine consecutive T20 victories this year. Now, he has the opportunity to surpass them all in the upcoming series against the West Indies.

A chance for Iyer to match Rohit Sharma

If Shreyas Iyer achieves a clean sweep in the T20 series against the West Indies, he will join Rohit Sharma as an Indian captain to have won 14 consecutive T20 matches.

By doing so, he would also become only the second Indian T20 captain to win 10 or more consecutive matches. In other words, Shreyas Iyer could achieve a feat under his captaincy that neither Virat Kohli nor Suryakumar Yadav managed matching the record set by Rohit Sharma.
