Friday evening in Dindigul belonged to the host team, the Dragons, during the TNPL 2026 season. Rain delayed the start of the match, resulting in the contest being reduced from 20 overs per side to 15.
With five overs cut from the game, expectations for a high-scoring match were low. However, the Dindigul Dragons' batsmen proved everyone wrong by displaying explosive batting.
Dindigul Posts Huge Score Powered by Captain's Knock
The team's openers set the tone by smashing 70 runs in just 4.4 overs. However, the team suddenly lost three wickets with the score at 89. Captain Baba Indrajith then took charge, taking the Salem Spartans' bowlers to the cleaners and raining down sixes.
He completed his half-century in just 18 balls and remained unbeaten on 73 off 25 deliveries. Indrajith's innings featured 8 sixes and 3 fours. Dindigul posted 239 runs in 15 overs—the second-highest score in the league's history. Had the match lasted the full 20 overs, the team might well have crossed the 300-run mark.
Salem's Batting Lacks Firepower
In stark contrast, the Salem Spartans' batting lineup failed to deliver. Captain S. Abhishek tried to mount a strong response by scoring 38 runs off 18 balls, but the other batters could not make a significant impact.
Chasing 240 runs in 15 overs was always going to be a tall order, given that such a score had been achieved only once in TNPL history—and that too in a full 20-over match. Ultimately, the Spartans could only manage 158 runs in their 15 overs, losing the match by 81 runs.
