Former South African all-rounder Albie Morkel has been appointed as the new head coach of the Joburg Super Kings (JSK) for the upcoming fifth season of the SA20. The franchise made the official announcement on Thursday. Morkel has previously been part of the team's coaching staff and will now take over the role of head coach following Stephen Fleming's departure.
Albie Morkel, who played as a match-winner for the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the IPL for a long time, has been associated with the Joburg franchise since the inaugural season of the SA20.

Expressing her delight at the appointment, Super Kings owner Rupa Gurunath said:
"Albie Morkel has been a vital member of our coaching group for several years. He understands the Super Kings' philosophy and culture perfectly. He has built strong relationships with the players and support staff and has played a significant role behind the scenes in player development. We are thrilled that he will now lead the team in this new role."
Meanwhile, Joburg Super Kings Director K.S. Viswanathan said:
"Albie has experienced our culture both as a player and a coach. His understanding of the South African cricketing landscape and his leadership skills give us great confidence as we move forward."
What did Albie Morkel say upon becoming head coach?
Speaking on his new responsibility, Albie Morkel said:
"It is a huge honor for me to be appointed as the head coach of the Joburg Super Kings. The journey from wearing the Super Kings' yellow jersey as a player to now leading the franchise as head coach is truly special. I look forward to building upon the strong foundation established with the team and helping this group reach its full potential."
JSK's Performance Last Season
Joburg Super Kings had a mixed run last season (the fourth season). The team finished the league stage in fourth place but suffered a defeat in the Eliminator match. Now, under the guidance of Albie Morkel, the team will take the field with the aim of winning the title.
