SA vs AUS 1st Test: Cameron Green ruled out of Durban Test due to abdominal injury; Beau Webster could get a chance

The Australian team has suffered a major setback just before the first Test match against South Africa in Durban. All-rounder Cameron Green has been ruled out of the opening Test due to an abdominal injury. Australia's head coach, Andrew McDonald, confirmed this on Tuesday (October 6).

Injury sustained during the ODI series

The 27-year-old Green sustained the injury while batting during the third ODI against South Africa in Potchefstroom last week. A delivery from South African bowler Corbin Bosch struck him in the abdominal area. Due to this injury, he was also unable to participate in the recently concluded two-day warm-up match.

Coach McDonald stated that although Green will not be available for the first Test, his rehabilitation is progressing well. Australia hopes he might return as a batsman for the subsequent matches of the series. During the first Test, he is also expected to be seen practicing batting in the nets during the lunch break.

Will Beau Webster get a chance in the playing XI?

With Green ruled out, will 32-year-old all-rounder Beau Webster secure a spot in the playing XI?

Responding to this, Coach McDonald stated that no one’s place in the team is guaranteed.

  • Webster made his Test debut against India in Sydney in January 2025 and has played 10 Tests so far.
  • He also recently participated in the two-match Test series against Bangladesh in August.
  • According to the coach, the team has several options available, and the final playing XI will be decided a day or two before the match, based on the pitch and conditions.
