A major controversy has emerged in Indian domestic cricket after a disputed result in an Under-19 women's cricket tournament. The Jharkhand Cricket Association (JCA) has questioned the official result of its match against Uttarakhand, alleging that a scoring error involving just one run cost its team the match and a place in the tournament.
Following the incident, JCA has lodged an official complaint with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), seeking an investigation into the alleged scoring mistake. The controversy has raised serious questions about the accuracy of the official scorecard and the match result.
Jharkhand vs Uttarakhand: How Did the 1-Run Controversy Begin?
The Under-19 women's cricket match between Jharkhand and Uttarakhand was played on Tuesday in Nagpur. Uttarakhand batted first and posted a total of 134 runs.
In response, Jharkhand were bowled out for 133 runs. According to the official scorecard, Uttarakhand secured a narrow one-run victory, which resulted in Jharkhand's elimination from the tournament.
However, the Jharkhand Cricket Association believes that the official score did not accurately reflect the events on the field. The association claims that an error in recording a completed run changed the outcome of the match.
Cricket Scoring Error: Was One Run Missing From Jharkhand's Total?
According to a report by The Indian Express, JCA has alleged that the official scorer failed to add one completed run during the 30th over.
The incident reportedly occurred on the fourth delivery of the over (29.4). A Jharkhand batter was attempting to complete a second run when she was run out. However, the association claims that the batter had already completed the first run before being dismissed.
JCA alleges that the official scorer recorded the run-out but failed to include the completed first run in Jharkhand's total. According to the association, this scoring mistake left the team's total one run short.
Last-Ball Drama: Why Did Jharkhand Believe the Match Was Tied?
The controversy became more significant during the final delivery of the match.
According to the scoreboard displayed at the ground, Jharkhand needed two runs from the last ball. The batters managed to score only one run, and the Jharkhand camp initially believed that the match had ended in a tie.
However, the official result declared Uttarakhand the winner by one run. This left the Jharkhand players and team officials surprised.
Some members of the Jharkhand team reportedly questioned the official scorer over the disputed calculation. However, their objections did not lead to any immediate change in the match result.
JCA Complains to BCCI Over Controversial Match Result
Following the disputed result, the Jharkhand Cricket Association decided to approach the BCCI with an official complaint.
A JCA official reportedly explained that the batter had completed the first run before getting run out while attempting the second. The association maintains that this run was not added to the official scorecard, directly affecting the final result.
Through its complaint, JCA has sought the BCCI's intervention and wants the alleged scoring discrepancy to be examined.
Will BCCI Review Jharkhand's One-Run Defeat?
The complaint has brought the match's official scoring process under scrutiny. If the alleged error is established, it could raise questions about the accuracy of the recorded result and the circumstances surrounding Jharkhand's elimination.
For now, the official scorecard continues to show Uttarakhand as the winner by one run. The next development will depend on how the BCCI responds to the Jharkhand Cricket Association's complaint.
The biggest question remains whether a single scoring mistake cost Jharkhand its place in the Under-19 women's cricket tournament.
