IND vs WI 2nd ODI: Team India achieved a record-breaking victory in the second match of the ODI series against the West Indies. The Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati witnessed one of the most thrilling and incredible run chases in the history of cricket. Batting first in this match, the West Indies posted a massive total of 405 for 7 in their 50 overs.

This marked the first time in ODI history that the Caribbean team had crossed the 400-run mark. However, the Indian batsmen made the seemingly impossible target of 406 runs look small, pulling off their highest-ever successful run chase.

West Indies breach the 400-run mark for the first time

After losing the toss and coming out to bat first, the West Indies team took India's pace attack to the cleaners. Opener John Campbell completed his century in just 65 balls, smashing a total of 101 runs off 68 deliveries, powered by 9 fours and 5 sixes.

Meanwhile, captain Shai Hope was handed a lifeline on an individual score of 27 when Virat Kohli dropped a catch at short mid-wicket. Making the most of this opportunity, Hope played a captain's knock, scoring 104 runs off 94 balls.

Subsequently, Amir Jangoo scored his second ODI century off just 69 balls, remaining unbeaten on 114. This marked the first time in ODI cricket that three West Indies batsmen scored centuries in the same match.

As a result, the West Indies posted 405 for 7 in 50 overs, breaching the 400-run mark in ODIs for the first time. For India, Gurnoor Brar, Kuldeep Yadav, and Ravindra Jadeja claimed two wickets each during the innings.

Gill's Rampage and Rohit's Storm in the Run Chase

Facing a mammoth target of 406 runs, the Indian opening pair displayed aggressive intent right from the very first ball. Former captain Rohit Sharma played a blistering knock of 101 runs off 75 balls, featuring 10 fours and 6 sixes. Meanwhile, Gill having already smashed the fastest double-century in ODI history showed no signs of slowing down.

He remained unbeaten on 223 off 133 balls, hitting 26 fours and 8 sixes. Powered by this, India chased down the target in 43.3 overs for the loss of just two wickets maintaining a staggering run rate of 9.33 to win the match and secure an unassailable 2-0 lead in the series.

Notably, this marks only the second instance in ODI history where a team has successfully chased down a target of 400 runs or more. For the Indian team, this is the first time they have achieved such a feat in their ODI history.
