IND vs WI 2nd ODI: Major blow for West Indies; centurion Justin Greaves ruled out of second ODI against India
The West Indies team has suffered a major setback ahead of the second match of the three-game ODI series against India. All-rounder Justin Greaves, who scored a magnificent century in the first ODI held in Thiruvananthapuram, has been ruled out of the second ODI in Guwahati due to a calf injury.
Greaves injured after scoring a century
In the series opener in Thiruvananthapuram, Justin Greaves played a brilliant innings of 101 runs off 108 balls—marking the first century of his ODI career. However, he sustained a calf injury while batting. Due to this injury, he was unable to take the field for the second innings of the match.
In the first ODI, West Indies posted a challenging total of 295 runs, powered by Greaves' century and half-centuries from John Campbell and Amir Jangoo. However, in response, the Indian team chased down the target in just 41.4 overs, thanks to magnificent centuries from Virat Kohli and Shubman Gill, thereby taking a 1-0 lead in the series.
Second ODI to be played in Guwahati
The second ODI of the series between the two teams will be played on September 30 at the Barsapara Stadium in Guwahati. Following this, the third and final ODI will be held in Chandigarh on October 3. Following the conclusion of the ODI series, a five-match T20I series will also be played between October 6 and 17.
