Why is Ishan Kishan Not Playing Today?: The second T20I match between India and New Zealand is being played today at Hagley Oval in Christchurch; however, wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan is not participating in this crucial encounter. Let’s find out why Ishan Kishan is sidelined for today’s match and what changes have been made to the team.

Why is Ishan Kishan Not Playing Today? (Injury Reason)

The primary reason for Ishan Kishan’s absence from today’s match is an injury.

During the first T20I between India and New Zealand, Ishan Kishan sustained a minor injury to his inner right thigh specifically, an 'adductor strain.' The BCCI has officially confirmed this injury.

The 'adductor muscle' is located on the inner part of the thigh. This muscle is often subjected to strain during cricket, particularly due to rapid lateral (side-to-side) movements or the pressure placed on the legs during footwork while batting. Although the BCCI has not yet specified how long it will take for him to be fully fit, he has been kept out of today’s match as a precautionary measure.

Major Changes in Playing XI: Entry of Vaibhav Suryavanshi and Prince Yadav

Due to an injury to Ishan Kishan and some strategic adjustments, two major changes have been made to the playing XI for today’s match:

  • Entry of Vaibhav Suryavanshi: In the absence of Ishan Kishan, young player Vaibhav Suryavanshi has been included in the playing XI and has been sent in to bat at the number three position today.
  • Opportunity for Prince Yadav: Additionally, as part of another strategic change, Prince Yadav has been brought into the team, replacing Mayank.
