India vs Pakistan: The International Cricket Council (ICC) is formulating a major plan regarding the biggest clash in international cricket India vs Pakistan
According to media reports, the ICC is considering a proposal to organize matches between the arch-rivals outside the scope of standard ICC and ACC events.
Plans are being drawn up for white-ball tournaments, such as a tri-series or a quadrangular series (which involves four teams).
What is the ICC's plan regarding India and Pakistan?
Due to political tensions between India and Pakistan, bilateral series have not been played for years; however, plans are underway to pit the two teams against each other once again at a neutral venue during multi-nation tournaments.
According to Pakistani media reports, the ICC may present this proposal during the Future Tours Programme (FTP) meeting. This crucial meeting is scheduled to be held in Dubai on September 22 and 23. Representatives from all 12 Test-playing nations and 8 associate countries will participate in the meeting.
Fans Have Long Awaited Such Clashes
The last time India and Pakistan faced each other outside of an ICC or ACC tournament was in December 2012 and January 2013, when the Pakistan team toured India for two T20Is and three ODIs.
Since then, the two teams have clashed only in the ODI World Cup, T20 World Cup, Champions Trophy, and Asia Cup. They also recently faced each other during the ICC T20 World Cup held in Sri Lanka
where Team India secured a commanding 61-run victory. Now, if this ICC masterplan materializes, fans could get to witness thrilling cricket matches between the two nations every year.
It is worth noting that the Indian government generally does not permit bilateral series against Pakistan, though there is no restriction on the two teams playing each other in multi-nation tournaments. A tri-series or a four-nation format could prove to be the best approach in this regard.
The participation of three or four teams would offer broadcasters and sponsors lucrative packages, virtually guaranteeing the event's success. The UAE, England, and Australia are considered the strongest contenders to host this series.
