Batting first in the Southampton T20I, England scored 254 for 4 in 20 overs. This marks their highest score against Sri Lanka in T20Is and their fourth-highest overall. Notably, this is the second consecutive T20I in which England has crossed the 250-run mark.
They are only the third team to achieve this feat, following India and Nepal. England had previously scored 257 runs against India at the same venue Southampton in July 2026.
Harry Brook's Fastest T20I Century
The question now arises: how did the England team reach a score of 254? The answer lies in Harry Brook's explosive century and the 90 runs posted on the scoreboard during the powerplay a phase in which Jos Buttler also played a significant role. Brook remained unbeaten, scoring 114 runs off 49 balls at a strike rate of 232.65, an innings that included 6 sixes and 10 fours.
During this knock, Brook reached his century in 42 balls. This marks the fastest century of his T20 career. With this feat, he becomes the second-fastest centurion for England, trailing only Phil Salt, who scored his century off 39 balls.
90 runs in the powerplay; 128-run partnership between Buttler and Brook
While scoring the second century of his T20I career, Harry Brook shared a 128-run partnership for the second wicket with Jos Buttler. The onslaught by Brook and Buttler propelled England to 90 runs within the powerplay the first six overs laying a magnificent foundation for a massive total. Buttler scored 80 runs off 44 balls, an innings that included eight fours and two sixes.
England's record victory over Sri Lanka
Chasing a daunting target of 255 runs, Sri Lanka was bowled out for 135 in 19 overs. They lost the match by 119 runs, marking their biggest defeat against England in terms of runs.
This result also extended Sri Lanka's winless streak against England in T20Is, which dates back to 2014; this marks their 13th consecutive T20I loss to England.
