Former Sri Lankan captain Lahiru Thirimanne seriously injured in road accident

Former Sri Lanka captain Lahiru Thirimane was admitted to hospital after a horrific car accident in Anuradhapura on Thursday. He was traveling in his car. His car collided with the vehicle coming from the front. After this he was taken to Anuradhapura Teaching Hospital. No information has been received yet about how serious his injury is, but at present his condition remains critical. However, doctors say that he is fine and his condition is stable. Reports claim that there was at least one other passenger in the car with Thirimane and that person is being treated at the hospital.

Former Sri Lankan cricket captain Lahiru Thirimane was involved in a fatal car accident near Anuradhapura, a city in the north-central part of Sri Lanka. Thirimane was admitted to Anuradhapura Teaching Hospital soon after the accident, where his condition was reported to be stable.

Thirimane was currently playing for New York Strikers in Legends Cricket and the franchise has released an official statement regarding the incident. The team said, 'We would like to inform you that Lahiru Thirimane and his family met with a minor car accident while on their way to the temple. Thankfully, he has been admitted to hospital for observation. The good thing is that after initial investigation, we can confirm that they are all safe and healthy. nothing to worry about. We appreciate the support we have received from everyone during this time. We request to respect his privacy and wish Thirimane a speedy recovery.

Thirimane was on a pilgrimage at the time of the accident. The car collided with a lorry coming from the other side and was badly damaged in the incident. Thirimane played 44 Test matches, 127 ODIs and 26 T20 Internationals for Sri Lanka during his decade-long career. He was a part of the Sri Lankan team in three T20 World Cups. He was also a part of the Sri Lankan team that became champion in 2014. He retired from international cricket in July 2023.
