He completed his century off 170 balls, achieving the milestone during the third session of the second day. Remaining unbeaten until the end of the first innings, Jurel struck 9 fours and 2 towering sixes during his 177-ball knock.

Joins Hardik Pandya in an Elite Test Cricket Record List

Scoring a century while batting at number seven or lower on Sri Lankan soil is considered an extremely difficult feat. Before Jurel, only Hardik Pandya had accomplished this; Hardik scored 108 runs while batting at number seven during the Pallekele Test in 2017.
Dhruv Jurel has now become only the second Indian batsman to score a Test century at number seven against Sri Lanka on their home turf.
2nd Test Century for Jurel: Following Nitish Kumar Reddy's Footsteps

This marks the second century of Dhruv Jurel's Test career. Prior to this, he had scored the first Test century of his career against the West Indies in Ahmedabad.
Nitish Kumar Reddy is the player who immediately precedes Jurel in the list of Indians scoring a Test century while batting at number seven or lower. Nitish played a gritty knock of 114 runs against Australia in the Melbourne Test in December 2024. Now, following in those footsteps, Jurel has also demonstrated the strength of the Indian middle order.
