Rajasthan Royals captain Sanju Samson was on Wednesday fined Rs 12 lakh for maintaining a slow over rate in their IPL 2023 match against Chennai Super Kings. IPL said in the press release – Rajasthan Royals have been fined for slow over-rate in the 17th match of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 against Chennai Super Kings at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Wednesday.
Rajasthan First Win In Chepauk After 2008
This was the team's first offense relating to minimum over-rate offenses under the IPL's Code of Conduct, hence captain Sanju Samson was fined Rs 12 lakh. However, this fine might mean nothing more than a caution for Samson as his team won against Chennai at their home ground after 15 years. Rajasthan won the last match at Chepauk in Chennai in 2008. Chennai needed five runs to win off the last ball and Dhoni was on strike. However, Sandeep Sharma conceded just one run.

The win took Rajasthan to the top of the IPL 2023 points table with three wins from four matches.
What Happened In The Match
Talking about the match, CSK captain Dhoni won the toss and decided to bowl first. Yashasvi Jaiswal played an inning of 10 runs. Apart from this, Jos Buttler scored 52 runs in 36 balls, Devdutt Padikkal scored 38 runs in 26 balls, Ravichandran Ashwin scored 30 runs in 22 balls. Dhruv Jurel could score only four runs and Adam Zampa could score only one run. Captain Sanju Samson and Jason Holder could not even open the account. For Chennai, Akash Singh, Tushar Deshpande and Ravindra Jadeja took two wickets each. Wiggle, Moeen Ali gets a wicket.
In response, the Chennai team could only manage 172 runs after losing six wickets in 20 overs. In the last five overs, CSK had to score 63 runs to win. Then Dhoni and Jadeja were at the crease. Both of them played well and scored 23 runs in three overs. CSK needed 40 runs off the last 12 balls. Jadeja and Dhoni added 19 runs in the 19th over. 21 runs were needed in the 20th over, but the Chennai team could only score 17 runs. Dhoni also hit two sixes in this over, but it was not enough to give CSK the win. Dhoni remained unbeaten on 32 runs in 17 balls with the help of one four and three sixes. At the same time, Jadeja remained unbeaten after scoring 25 runs in 15 balls.
