Cheteshwar Pujara Reveals 3 Main Reasons Behind India Loss To England: World Champion Team India has suddenly begun to look like a very mediocre side in the aftermath of IPL 2026. During the recently concluded tour of Britain, the Indian team suffered humiliating defeats against Ireland and England. Team India failed to win a single match throughout the tour; while Ireland defeated India 2-0, England completed a 4-0 clean sweep in the five-match T20 series.

Following this dismal performance, veteran batsman Cheteshwar Pujara analyzed the three main reasons for the team's defeat while speaking to JioHotstar.

1. Weak Middle-Order Performance

According to Cheteshwar Pujara, the primary reason for India's poor showing was the complete failure of the middle order. Drawing a comparison with England, he said, "England had batsmen at the number five, six, seven, and eight positions who contributed significantly. On the other hand, India had Tilak Varma at number five and Shivam Dube at number six, but they failed to contribute anywhere near the level of England's lower-order batsmen."

2. Absence of a Proper All-Rounder

Pujara identified the lack of a genuine all-rounder as the second major factor affecting the team's balance during the tour. He stated bluntly, "India clearly lacked a proper all-rounder, and this has become a major cause for concern for the Indian team in limited-overs cricket at present."

3. Substandard Fielding Standards

Pujara cited poor fielding as the third and most irresponsible reason for the defeat.

He stated in strong terms, "It may be acknowledged that this is a young team that failed to perform up to expectations in batting and bowling, but poor fielding is absolutely unacceptable. Fielding plays a crucial role in the T20 format, yet India's fielding remained weak throughout the series."
