Temba Bavuma’s Century vs Australia: On the third day of the second Test match between Australia and South Africa at St George’s Park in Gqeberha, South African captain Temba Bavuma played a captain’s innings that completely shifted the momentum of the match.

With the hosts in deep trouble having lost 6 wickets for just 110 runs against the Australian fast bowlers Bavuma delivered a powerful batting performance to reach the 5th century of his Test career.

Bavuma hits a memorable century

In this match, due to rain over the first two days and lethal bowling from Australian pacer Scott Boland, South Africa had lost 5 wickets for 97 runs by the close of play on the second day.

Captain Temba Bavuma remained unbeaten on 41 at the end of the second day. On the third day, Wiaan Mulder was dismissed early for 13 runs, leaving the team at 110 for 6 and putting the hosts on the verge of being bundled out for a low total.

But after that, Bavuma dug in at the crease and gave the Australian bowlers no chance to gain the upper hand. He reached his century off 226 deliveries his first against Australia in the Test format.

During this period, Bavuma received excellent support from fast bowler Marco Jansen. Together, the pair forged a 132-run partnership for the seventh wicket, causing quite a stir within the Australian camp.

Jansen also contributes 85 runs

This century-plus innings against a potent pace attack—featuring the likes of Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc, and Scott Boland has become one of the most resilient knocks of Bavuma’s Test career. Meanwhile, Jansen’s 85 runs also proved highly valuable for the team.

He faced a total of 100 balls, striking 9 fours and 3 sixes, which helped the South African side successfully cross the 300-run mark.
