Abu Dhabi ODI Tri-Series: Bangladesh Squad Announced, 'Mystery Spinner' Aliss Al Islam Gets the Nod; Litton Das to Lead

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has announced a 16-member squad for the upcoming tri-nation ODI series. Apart from Bangladesh, Afghanistan and Zimbabwe will participate in the tournament, which begins on October 17 in Abu Dhabi. The biggest surprise in the squad is the selection of uncapped 'mystery spinner' Aliss Al Islam. Additionally, Litton Das, Mustafizur Rahman, and Hasan Mahmud have returned to the side for this 50-over format.

Who is Aliss Al Islam?

Off-spinner Aliss Al Islam is known for the variations in his bowling. He made his T20 International debut against Sri Lanka at the Asian Games. He has performed exceptionally well in List-A cricket, claiming 35 wickets in 19 matches at an impressive average of 17.05 and an economy rate of 4.05, including a five-wicket haul.

Chief selector Habibul Bashar said, "We needed a bowler who could take wickets in the middle overs, and Aliss performed well during the Bangladesh 'A' team's tour of South Africa, which earned him this opportunity."

Squad Changes and Injury Updates

  • Returns: Litton Das has been handed the captaincy, while Towhid Hridoy will serve as the vice-captain. Senior players such as Mustafizur Rahman, Hasan Mahmud, and Soumya Sarkar have also returned to the team.
  • Players Dropped: Parvez Hossain and Mohammad Saifuddin have been dropped from the squad that played the previous ODI series against Zimbabwe.
  • Nahid Rana to Miss Out: Fast bowler Nahid Rana has been ruled out of this tri-series due to injury and is currently undergoing rehabilitation.
