Not selected in the team for the New Zealand tour:In the Ranji Trophy, the Bengal team is playing its second match against Services. However, when Bengal announced its playing XI for this encounter, the name of Mohammed Shami was notably absent.
The question is: why? What could be the reason for excluding Shami who took 5 wickets for Bengal in their first Ranji match from this second game? Could this be linked to his omission from the Indian squad selected for the upcoming tour of New Zealand?
Why was Shami left out?
There is currently no official information regarding why Shami was excluded from Bengal’s playing XI. However, it is suspected that he may be dealing with an injury, which is why he has been left out.
According to reports, he was seen walking off the field with the team physio before the toss for the match between Bengal and Services. This suggests that his exclusion from Bengal’s playing XI has nothing to do with him not being selected for the New Zealand tour.
Shami takes 5 wickets against Delhi
Mohammed Shami claimed 5 wickets in the opening Ranji Trophy match against Delhi. He took 4 wickets in the first innings and 1 wicket in the second. Bengal secured a 9-wicket victory over Delhi, marking a brilliant start to their Ranji Trophy season.
Not Selected for the New Zealand Tour
Following his performance in the match against Delhi, Shami had hoped to secure a spot in the Test squad for the tour of New Zealand. This hope was further bolstered by the return of Bhuvneshwar Kumar to the team after a four-year absence. However, Shami was left disappointed once again as he failed to make the cut.
Mohammed Shami has played 101 first-class matches to date, claiming 389 wickets. During this period, he has taken five or more wickets in an innings on 15 occasions, and has claimed 10 or more wickets in a match twice.
