Abhishek Nayar Honest Verdict on Virat Kohli 100 Centuries Goal: Indian cricket legend Virat Kohli has scored 86 centuries in his international career so far. He currently holds the second position on the list of batters with the most centuries in international cricket. Ahead of him is only Sachin Tendulkar, often referred to as the 'God of Cricket ', who holds the formidable record of 100 centuries.
For a long time now, 'King Kohli' has been seen as the only contender in the current era capable of breaking this historic record set by Sachin. However, as Virat Kohli has now reached the final phase of his international career, former India assistant coach Abhishek Nayar believes that he may not have enough matches left to reach this magical milestone.

To equal Sachin Tendulkar’s monumental record of 100 centuries, Virat Kohli needs 14 more centuries; to surpass it and reach 101 centuries, he would need to score 15 more.
While scoring 14–15 centuries might not seem impossible given Kohli’s ability and form, the limited number of matches remaining in his career presents a significant challenge.
Virat Kohli’s Retirement Plan and Limited ODI Matches Before the 2027 World Cup
The primary reason for the limited number of matches available to Virat Kohli is his retirement from other formats of the game:
- T20 Internationals: Retired in 2024.
- Test Cricket: Retired in 2025.
Currently, Kohli represents India only in the ODI format. It is widely speculated that following the 2027 ODI World Cup, he will retire from ODIs as well, marking the end of his international cricket career. Given this, he has very few matches left in international cricket.

Speaking on JioStar, former India assistant coach Abhishek Nayar shared his thoughts on the possibility of Kohli reaching 100 centuries:
"I don't think he has enough matches left until the World Cup to reach that milestone (100 centuries). I genuinely want him to achieve it, but reaching such a figure requires playing a significant number of matches consistently. He might continue playing even after the World Cup, but I am considering the period leading up to it. - Abhishek Nayar
India's ODI Schedule Before the 2027 World Cup: Matches Remaining for Kohli
The 2027 ODI World Cup, to be hosted by South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Namibia, is set to begin on October 2, 2027.
According to various reports:
- Before the World Cup: The Indian team is scheduled to play approximately 13 to 24 ODI matches before the tournament begins.
- During the World Cup: Additionally, Kohli will have the opportunity to play further matches during the World Cup itself.
For Kohli to score 14–15 more centuries, he would need to hit a century in nearly every second or third ODI an extremely daunting challenge for any batter.
