Estadio Akron—formerly known as Estadio Omnilife and Estadio Chivas —is a multi-purpose stadium located in Zapopan. Situated near Guadalajara in the Mexican state of Jalisco, the stadium is primarily used for football matches. It serves as the home ground for the Liga MX team C.D. Guadalajara. It is part of the JVC Complex and has a seating capacity of 49,813 spectators. Construction began in February 2004; however, due to financial difficulties and other issues, the stadium's completion was delayed by several years. The stadium is named after Grupo Akron, a Mexican lubricant and fuel company. The stadium hosted its first major international event in 2010, when it staged the first leg of the Copa Libertadores final, followed by the opening and closing ceremonies of the 2011 Pan American Games. The stadium's artificial turf generated considerable controversy and drew criticism from several prominent players; consequently, it was announced in May 2012 that the artificial turf would be removed and replaced with natural grass. The stadium is also expected to host several matches during the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
