The Allianz Arena (known as the Munich Football Arena for UEFA competitions) is a football stadium in Munich, Germany, with a seating capacity of 70,000 for international matches and 75,000 for domestic matches. It is renowned for its inflated ETFE plastic panel exterior, and it is the world's first stadium with a fully color-changing exterior. It is located on the Fröttmaning Heath at Franz-Beckenbauer-Platz 5 on the northern edge of Munich's Schwabing-Freimann district, and it is the second-largest stadium in Germany after the Westfalenstadion in Dortmund. Bayern Munich has been playing its home matches at the Allianz Arena since the start of the 2005–06 season. The club previously played its home matches at the Munich Olympic Stadium from 1972. 1860 Munich initially held a 50 percent stake in the stadium, but in 2006, they sold their share to Bayern for €11 million to resolve a serious financial crisis that had brought 1860 to the brink of bankruptcy. This agreement allowed 1860 Munich to continue playing at the stadium without any ownership rights until 2025. However, in July 2017, Bayern terminated the rental contract with 1860, making them the sole tenant of the stadium.
