In the 39th league match of IPL 2026, the Delhi Capitals and Royal Challengers Bengaluru teams have taken the field. For this encounter, Delhi has made a significant change to its Playing XI, giving an opportunity to young batsman Sahil Parekh. Sri Lankan top-order batsman Pathum Nissanka has been left out of the squad. But did you know that just a few days ago (on April 24), Sahil suffered a severe injury? It would not be an exaggeration to say that Sahil has cheated death. Now, he has been given the opportunity to make his IPL debut.

On April 24, reports emerged that Sahil had sustained an injury to his face during a practice session at the Arun Jaitley Stadium. Following this incident, an ambulance had to be summoned onto the field to transport him to the hospital. Now, exactly three days later, he has been entrusted with a major responsibility. So, let's find out—who exactly is Sahil Parekh?

Who is Sahil Parekh?

Sahil Parekh is one of the youngest and most intriguing players in the Delhi Capitals squad. He represents the wave of new Indian talent emerging through the ranks of age-group and domestic cricket. Born in 2007 in Nashik, Maharashtra, Parekh is a left-handed batsman who also bowls right-arm leg-break.

He first made his mark in age-group cricket, where he cemented his place by consistently delivering strong performances across Maharashtra's school and Under-19 circuits. Parekh also captained the Maharashtra U-19 team and impressed everyone with his performances in tournaments such as the Vinoo Mankad Trophy. During this period, he admirably demonstrated both his leadership capabilities and his reliability as a top-order batsman.

Sahil Parekh Cricket Career

Sahil Parekh gained true recognition on the international youth stage when he represented India in various U-19 tournaments. A memorable moment in his career occurred during a Youth ODI match against Australia in Puducherry in 2024, where he scored a magnificent, unbeaten century. Through this innings, he proved that he possesses the capability to dominate even the most formidable bowling attacks.

Parekh continued his stellar form in the 2025 Maharashtra Premier League, where his performance was nothing short of miraculous. Playing for the Eagle Nashik Titans, he amassed a total of 202 runs across eight matches, maintaining a strike rate of 177.19. This performance perfectly showcased his aggressive batting style while playing at the top of the batting order. He also delivered exceptional performances for the team during crucial moments; one such instance occurred in Qualifier 2, where he played a blistering innings of 68 runs off just 33 balls—an innings that played a pivotal role in securing his team's spot in the final.

He had made his debut for the Maharashtra senior team in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy the previous year, where he had the opportunity to play in only two matches. Recognizing his talent, the Delhi Capitals acquired Parekh at his base price of ₹30 lakh during the IPL 2026 auction. Thus, he became a part of the Delhi Capitals squad, which features several seasoned international players.
