USA cricketers engage in a war of words amid the T20 World Cup 2024

Playing in its inaugural T20 World Cup, the American cricket team has impressed with a strong performance. The United States is ranked second in Group A after victories over Pakistan and Ireland. They have a higher probability of making it to the Super 8 level than Pakistan does. But there appears to be some problem in the works. USA bowler Ali Khan and batter Jaskaran Malhotra, who was left out of the host country's 2024 T20 World Cup roster, exchanged insults on social media. In their defeat against India, USA batsman Shayan Jahangir was out for a golden duck. Malhotra used the occasion to make light of Jahangir, who had earlier declared his intention to reveal 'who is King' to Virat Kohli.

Malhotra posted a joke on X using an old Jahangir statement in which the latter stated he had a fantasy of taking on Virat Kohli and proving to him who is King. 'And this happened when he played against Virat and his team,' Malhotra said, accompanied by a picture of Jahangir going out for zero on the first ball.

Oddly enough, skipper Rohit Sharma and former India U19 spinner Saurabh Netravalkar picked up both Kohli and the captain during the team's run-chase. Kohli was bowled for a golden duck.

'Never expected this from my ex-teammate,' Ali Khan shot back after the game. hatred for a different player! quite unprofessional of you.'

Malhotra later removed his first post. In his reply, he also told Ali Khan not to doubt his backing of the American cricket team.

Malhotra, who in 2021 became the sixth person to smash six sixes in an over, was left out of the USA squad in favour of Jahangir, and it appears that he did not take his exclusion well.

After getting off to a fast start, Team India laboured to win despite a breakdown in the top order, which dragged the USA back to earth. After hitting his maiden fifty of the competition, Suryakumar Yadav led India to victory in 18.2 overs while pursuing 111.
