Glenn Maxwell made history by scoring the quickest century in ODI World Cup history, in just 40 balls, breaking Aiden Markram's mark.
Maxwell struck 106 runs in 44 balls against the Netherlands at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi, beating Markram's previous best of 49 balls at the same venue.
Indian skipper Rohit Sharma is also among the top ten hitters in World Cup history to have struck the quickest century.

Aiden Markram achieved the second-fastest century in tournament history at the ICC ODI World Cup 2023, scoring a 106-run innings in 49 balls to etch his name in the record books. His inning came against a weak Sri Lankan assault, which included centuries from Quinton de Kock and Rassie van Dussen.

Kevin O'Brien delivered one of the most remarkable knocks in World Cup history, helping Ireland defeat England in 2011. O'Brien hit the three-figure milestone in Bengaluru in 50 balls, and his record remained for more than a decade before being broken by Markram and Maxwell.

Surprisingly, Maxwell has only scored two World Cup hundreds, both of which rank among the top five quickest centuries in the event. Maxwell's first World Cup century came against Sri Lanka in March 2015 in Sydney, where he hit the century mark in 51 balls.

AB de Villiers scored a remarkable 162 against the West Indies in the 2015 World Cup in Sydney. The Proteas hitter took 52 balls to make his century, the seventh fastest in World Cup history.

Former England captain Eoin Morgan lit up the 2019 World Cup in Manchester with a stunning 162-run innings against Afghanistan. Morgan reached the three-figure milestone in just 57 balls, the sixth-fastest ton in World Cup history.

Heinrich Klaasen adored the Wankhede Stadium, where he struck a century in 61 balls against England in the ODI World Cup 2023. He would go on to nearly hit another century a few days later at the same site, but in his own words, his outstanding inning against England was also Klaasen's greatest, as he fought heat, humidity, and cramping as well, earning South Africa a remarkable 229-run triumph.

Back in 2007, against South Africa, Australian stalwart Matthew Hayden recorded the 10th quickest century in World Cup history. Hayden hit a century in 66 balls in Basseterre in an unexpected show of aggressive cricket at the time.
