Batting as an opener, he has scored just 321 runs in 13 matches, maintaining an average of 29.18. Gaikwad's strike rate has also been quite poor, standing at a mere 120.67. Many fans have criticized his slow batting approach. Stepping out of the shadow of MS Dhoni's captaincy proved to be Gaikwad's biggest challenge.
