Sri Lanka Women win first Asia Cup in 20 years

Sri Lanka has created history by winning the Women's Asia Cup 2024 title. The team defeated India by 8 wickets in the final. Sri Lankan captain Chamari Atapattu scored 61 and Harshita Samarawickrama scored 69 runs. Both also shared a partnership of 87 runs. Sri Lanka became the champion for the first time in the Women's Asia Cup, which started in 2004, before this the team was runner-up 5 times. At the same time, India lost the Women's Asia Cup final for the second time. The team was earlier defeated by Bangladesh in 2018. India has won the Women's Asia Cup 7 times.

For Sri Lanka, Harshita Samarawickrama played a match-winning innings of 69 runs in 51 balls. Kavisha Dilhari shared a 73-run partnership with her. Dilhari led the team to victory by hitting a six against Pooja Vastrakar.

In Dambulla, India won the toss and chose to bat first. The team scored 165 runs at the loss of 2 wickets in 20 overs. Smriti Mandhana scored a fifty. Jemima Rodrigues scored 29 and Richa Ghosh scored 30 runs. Kavisha Dilhari from Sri Lanka took 2 wickets.

Sri Lanka achieved the target by losing only 2 wickets in 18.4 overs. Kavisha Dilhari remained unbeaten on 30 runs from the team, she hit the winning six against Pooja Vastrakar. Deepti Sharma from India took one wicket. One batsman was run out.

Batting first after winning the toss, India scored 165 runs for the loss of 6 wickets in 20 overs. Smriti Mandhana scored 60 runs. Jemima Rodrigues was dismissed after scoring 29 runs and Richa Ghosh after scoring 30 runs. Kavisha Dilhari took 2 wickets for Sri Lanka. Sachin Nishansala and Chamari Atapattu got one wicket each. For India, Shefali Verma scored 16, Harmanpreet Kaur scored 11, Uma Chhetri scored 9 and Pooja Vastrakar scored 5 runs.
