If Shikhar Dhawan flops on Sri Lanka tour, will not be able to play T20 World Cup, Says Laxman

VVS Laxman believes that "Shikhar Dhawan" will have to test his ability to make it as a substitute for the opener in the Indian T20 World Cup squad.

Shikhar Dhawan, who has been appointed captain for the limited overs series to be held in Sri Lanka, should be considered as a substitute for the opener in the Indian T20 World Cup squad.

But to make a place, you will have to give a test of your ability.

Dhawan is a regular member of Indias ODI team but struggles to make it to the T20 national team.

However, he has emerged as the third option after Rohit Sharma and Lokesh Rahul on the back of his impressive performance in the last two seasons of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2021).

Laxman said in the Game Plan program of Star Sports, "Keeping in mind the T20 World Cup, Shikhar Dhawans thinking will be very clear that he has to take advantage of this opportunity.

There is a very tough competition for a place in the team.

“He would be excited to be the captain of the Indian team and anyone would be proud to lead their country.

His focus, however, will be on scoring runs and securing his spot.

With Indias regular captain Virat Kohli also opening the innings for RCB in the IPL, it will be more difficult for Dhawan to make it to the shortest format.

Laxman said, "Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul are established openers in the team.

Virat Kohli clearly said that he wants to open the innings in the T20 format.

In such a situation, Shikhar Dhawan will have to score runs.

Dhawan will be leading the national team for the first time and Laxman believes that the player has been rewarded for his consistent performance.

"He (Dhawan) is being rewarded for his consistent performances for the Indian team, especially in the limited overs format.

He is the most experienced player in this team.
