Shan Masood Test Career in Danger Ahead of Sri Lanka Series: Speculation regarding further changes to the Pakistan cricket team has intensified. Ahead of the upcoming Test series against Sri Lanka, former Test captain Shan Masood appears deeply concerned about his career. According to media reports and internal sources, national selectors might use his recent calf muscle injury as a pretext to exclude him from the upcoming two-match Test series.

The 37-year-old experienced left-handed batter sustained the injury during a recent domestic first-class match. Although Masood is confident that he will regain full fitness by the time the series begins on November 9, the stance of the team management and selectors appears to be working against him.

"It is no secret that the red-ball head coach, the white-ball coach, and the senior selectors are all in favor of integrating more young players into the national team across all formats."

The past few months have been far from easy for Shan Masood. It was only about three months ago that he was stripped of the Pakistan Test captaincy. Under his leadership, the performance of the Pakistan team was highly disappointing, as they lost 12 out of 16 matches.

During this period, the humiliating defeats against Bangladesh in both home and away series proved to be the lowest point in Masood’s captaincy career. Following this, the selectors handed the reins of the Test team back to Babar Azam for the tours of the West Indies and England.

Young top-order batters who have been delivering consistent, stellar performances in domestic cricket have caught the attention of the selectors:

  • Abdullah Fazal: Having consistently scored runs at the domestic level, there are plans to give Fazal an extended run during the series against Sri Lanka.
  • Sameer Minhas: Promising young talents like Minhas are also being considered for opportunities on the big stage.
