Sanju Samson Creates History in the Indian Premier League 2024

In the Indian Premier League (IPL), Sanju Samson made history on Wednesday by hitting a spectacular half-century against the Gujarat Titans as the captain of the Rajasthan Royals. Samson's third half-century in the current IPL 2024 was sufficient to surpass the record formerly held by Rohit Sharma of the Mumbai Indians.

In his 50th game as the competition's captain, Samson recorded the greatest total of any cricket player with 68 runs off just 38 deliveries. In his 50th game as the captain of the Mumbai Indians, Rohit scored 65 runs off 48 balls against the Delhi Capitals back in 2016.

Most runs scored by a cricketer in their 50th match as skipper in the IPL

Score Balls Faced Player Team Against Year
68* 38 Sanju Samson RR GT 2024
65 48 Rohit Sharma MI DC 2016
59 46 Gautam Gambhir KKR RCB 2013
45 33 David Warner SRH DC 2021

Rahul Tewatia and Rashid Khan's powerful hitting followed a tough batting performance by Shubman Gill, but the half-century was insufficient as RR lost their opening match of the 2024 Indian Premier League.

With strong bowling performances, Yuzvendra Chahal and Kuldeep Sen were able to get RR back into the game, but GT managed to finish the run chase on the very last ball of the game. Previously, the GT bowlers were taken to task with exceptional blows by the Samson and Riyan Parag display.

While Rohit Sharma has not been playing well in the IPL 2024, Samson has had success. Before the current season began, Hardik Pandya took over as the MI captain in his place, and both analysts and fans have expressed dissatisfaction with his batting performances to yet.
