Rajasthan Royals (RR) have signed Luan-Dre Pretorius to replace Nitish Rana, who is ruled out of the rest of IPL 2025 due to injury. The South African will join RR for Rs 30 lakh.
The 19-year-old Pretorius is a powerful left-handed opening batsman and wicketkeeper. He is yet to make his international debut but was the leading run-scorer in SA20 2025 with 397 runs in 12 matches at a strike rate of 166.80. His 97 off 51 balls for Paarl Royals against Sunrisers Eastern Cape was one of the best knocks of the season. After his stint in SA20, he was signed by Hampshire for his first county stint in the Vitality Blast.
Last year, he was South Africa's leading run-scorer in the 2024 Under-19 World Cup.
As far as Rana is concerned, he put up two notable performances for RR this season. He scored 81 off 36 balls against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in Guwahati and 51 off 28 balls against Delhi Capitals (DC) in Delhi. RR have been eliminated from the tournament along with Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and CSK. They have won only three of their 12 matches in 2025 and are ninth in the ten-team tournament.
The Rajasthan Royals team has played 12 matches and has won only three matches. Now they have to play their next match against Chennai Super Kings on 12 May. Rajasthan will end its campaign by playing a match against Punjab Kings on 16 May. Their remaining matches will be against CSK in Chennai on May 12 and against Punjab Kings (PBKS) in Jaipur on May 16.
