The three-match ODI series between New Zealand and Pakistan will begin from Friday. However, the host team has suffered a major setback even before the start of the series. Captain Tom Latham has been ruled out of the ODI series due to a fracture in his hand. All-rounder Michael Bracewell will lead New Zealand against Pakistan.
Tom Latham got injured during practice and a fracture was found in his hand. New Zealand Cricket has confirmed that Latham may take four weeks to recover and he needs rest and rehab at this time. Henry Nicholls has been included in the New Zealand squad in place of Latham.
Apart from Tom Latham, New Zealand will not have the support of Will Young in the last two ODIs as the top order batsman is going to be a father. This is the reason why Canterbury batsman Ris Mariu has been included in the team for the first time in place of Young. In this series, the players will get a chance to prove themselves. We are happy to have Ris and Henry.
Henry is in good form, returning after three months from injury. He will bring experience to the team. It is disappointing to lose Tom Latham, but we wish him a speedy recovery. The team is in safe hands with Michael Bracewell, who performed well in the T20 International series against Pakistan. Mitch Hay will take over wicketkeeping duties in the absence of Tom Latham. This time Nick Kelly and Mohammad Abbas may get a chance to debut. Know that the first ODI between New Zealand and Pakistan will be played in Napier.
