Yashasvi Jaiswal, a rising star and left-handed opening batsman for India in the current Test series against England, is dominating. The 22-year-old has racked up an impressive 655 runs in just four Tests. He made history by becoming the first Indian batsman ever to score two double centuries in a row against England, achieving this feat in the second and third Tests played in Visakhapatnam and Rajkot.

After breaking multiple records in the four Tests played so far, Jaiswal is looking to break a few more in the fifth Test, which starts on March 7 in Dharamsala. During the final match of the ongoing tour, if Jaiswal manages to score at least 125 runs, then he will become the highest run scorer in a Test series played by India and also the highest run scorer in a Test series played in India.

As of now, the record for scoring the most runs in a Test series played by India is in the name of legendary West Indies cricketer Everton Weeks, who amassed a total of 779 runs in five Tests during the series played in 1948 and 1949. He is also the highest run scorer in a Test series played on Indian soil.

Most runs scored by a player in a Test series involving India

PLAYER COUNTRY OPPOSTION YEAR MATCHES RUNS AVERAGE BEST SCORE 100/50
Everton Weeks West Indies India 1948-49 5 779 111.28 194 4/2
Sunil Gavaskar India West Indies 1971 4 774 154.8 220 4/3
Steve Smith Australia India 2014-15 4 769 128.16 192 4/2
Mudassar Nazar Pakistan India 1982-83 6 761 126.83 231 4/1
Graham Gooch England India 1990 3 752 125.33 333 3/2
Joe Root England India 2021-22 5 737 105.28 180* 4/1

Yashasvi Jaiswal is currently sitting at number three on the all-time list for most runs scored in an India-England Test series. However, he has a chance to steal the top spot from the legendary English batsman Graham Gooch. Jaiswal just needs 98 runs in the upcoming Dharamsala Test to surpass Gooch's record of 752 runs, set in a three-match series played in England back in 1990.

A total of nine batters on 11 occasions have managed to score more runs in a Test series involving India as of now, but if Jaiswal scores at least 125 runs, then he will leave all of them behind and take the No. 1 position.

The ongoing series against England is Jaiswal’s first-ever Test series in India, and with his batting, he has impressed everyone.
