The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 is set to begin with much anticipation, but security concerns may lead to the rescheduling of the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) vs Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) match. Originally scheduled for April 6 at Eden Gardens, the match coincides with the Ram Navami festivities, raising security concerns due to large-scale public processions in Kolkata.
Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) president Snehasish Ganguly stated that after discussions with city police on March 18, authorities denied security clearance for the match. The primary reason is the anticipated 20,000-plus processions across the state on Ram Navami, which would make it challenging to manage security for both the processions and the 65,000-strong crowd expected at Eden Gardens.
BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari also highlighted the scale of the Ram Navami celebrations, emphasizing that security resources will be stretched, leaving insufficient personnel to ensure the safety of the IPL match.
This is not the first time such situations have arisen. A match in the IPL 2024 season was also rescheduled for the same reason. Ganguly noted that ensuring adequate security for such a large audience is impossible without police support. "We have informed the BCCI, and there is still time to take a final decisions," he added.

Ganguly highlighted the strong ticket demand for the KKR vs LSG match, underscoring its importance. "Eden Gardens is set to host an opening ceremony after a long time, and ticket sales have been very high," he said.
