IND Playing 11 vs IRE: Following a successful T20 World Cup 2026 campaign, the Indian team is set to play a two-match T20 series against Ireland (India tour of Ireland 2026) in Belfast. This series marks the beginning of a new chapter for the team under the leadership of Shreyas Iyer.

However, the biggest talking point, surpassing even the captaincy, is whether 15-year-old sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi will get the opportunity to make his international debut. The first T20 match between India and Ireland is scheduled for June 26, with the second taking place on June 28; both matches will commence at 6:00 PM.

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi wreaked havoc with the bat during IPL 2026, emerging as the tournament's highest run-scorer and claiming the Orange Cap. His impressive run didn't stop there; he also proved his mettle during the recent India-A tri-series in Sri Lanka. In that tournament, he played a breathtaking innings of 94 runs off just 29 balls, smashing the fastest half-century in List-A cricket history. It is for this reason that excitement regarding his potential debut for the Indian team is at an all-time high among fans and the cricketing fraternity alike.

Samson, Abhishek Sharma Opening Equation

Including Vaibhav directly in the playing XI will not be an easy decision for the team management. India already possesses a highly successful and aggressive opening pair in Sanju Samson and Abhishek Sharma, both known for providing the team with strong starts.

Sanju Samson Form: T20 World Cup Player of the Tournament

After initially warming the bench during the recently concluded T20 World Cup, Sanju Samson made a spectacular comeback to the team. He played a pivotal role in India's championship victory by delivering three memorable innings in the tournament's final stages, ultimately earning the 'Player of the Tournament' award. It seems almost impossible to leave out a player in such fine form.

On the other hand, although Abhishek Sharma’s World Cup campaign was a rollercoaster, starting with three consecutive ducks, he eventually regained his rhythm by playing a blistering knock of 52 runs off 21 balls. Since making his T20I debut in 2024, he has been the second-highest run-scorer among players from Full Member nations. Furthermore, both players had an outstanding IPL 2026 season.

If the selectors and captain Shreyas Iyer decide to give Sooryavanshi a chance, India might have to make significant changes to its entire batting order. The squad already includes wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan, while captain Shreyas Iyer himself is expected to bat at number four.

In such a scenario, Sooryavanshi's inclusion would leave room for only two of the three players, Sanju Samson, Abhishek Sharma, and Ishan Kishan in the playing 11. This implies that an established player would either have to change their batting position or sit out of the playing XI entirely.

Such a change might seem harsh on a player right after a T20 World Cup victory, but it reflects the level of competition for a spot in the team. Suryakumar Yadav’s exclusion from both the captaincy and the squad clearly indicates that the selectors and management are not shying away from making tough decisions with an eye on the future.

India’s Predicted Strategy for the T20 Series Against Ireland

Amidst this dilemma, a practical approach would be to bench Vaibhav Sooryavanshi for the first T20 match and field India's strongest playing 11. If Team India wins the first match and takes a lead in the series, a senior player could be rested for the second T20, giving Sooryavanshi a historic opportunity to make his debut.

India (IND) Possible Playing 11

  1. Abhishek Sharma
  2. Vaibhav Suryavanshi
  3. Sanju Samson

  6. Tilak Varma
  7. Shivam Dube
  8. Axar Patel
