ICC announced the World Test Championship 2025 final match venue and date: The historic Lord's Ground in London will host the final of the 2023-25 cycle of the World Test Championship. This was announced by the International Cricket Council on Tuesday. The final will be played from 11 to 15 June next year at the historic Lord's ground in London. This will be the third final of the WTC. The finals of all three editions so far have been played in England. New Zealand defeated India in the final of the first edition in 2021 in Southampton. At the same time, the second final was played at the Oval ground in London in 2023. Then Australia defeated India.
In the current World Test Championship standings, India is first and Australia is second. Test cricket has a two-year cycle and then the final is played. The top two teams in the World Test Championship points table reach the final. India has qualified for the final a maximum of two times, but has not been able to win the title. The teams of New Zealand and Australia have become champions so far.
Talking about the position of the teams in the table, India is at the first position with 68.52 point percentage. The Indian team has been the runner-up of the last two cycles. While on one hand they had to face defeat against New Zealand in the final of the first cycle of this tournament, in the second cycle they were defeated by Australia. The Indian team had performed disappointingly in the finals of both these cycles.
Australia is at the second position in the points table of the 2023-25 cycle with 62.50 point percentage while New Zealand is at the third position with 50 point percentage. England has 45 point percentage and is at the fourth position in this points table. The finalists of the 2025 event will be confirmed after Australia's tour of Sri Lanka. This will be the last Test series of this cycle.
Let us tell you, a five-match Test series is to be played between Australia and India, which will start from November 22 at Perth. Both the teams would definitely like to win this Test series.
Apart from Australia and India, a three-match Test series will also be played between New Zealand and England. This Test series will be hosted in New Zealand. Whichever team wins this Test series can secure its place in the top 2.
