India vs South Africa Highlights 1st T20I: KL Rahul and Suryakumar Yadav smashed unbeaten fifties as India defeated South Africa by eight wickets in the first T20I. Suryakumar Yadav (50 not out off 33 balls) gave India a much-needed boost in the chase after a shaky start. After the early dismissals of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul (51 not out off 56) has also found his feet. Earlier, Arshdeep Singh took three wickets, while Deepak Chahar and Harshal Patel each took two as India limited South Africa to 106/8 in 20 overs. After winning the toss, Chahar got the ball rolling for India by dismissing Proteas captain Temba Bavuma in the final ball of the first over.

Despite the fact that there were only 107 runs to chase, KL Rahul and Suryakumar Yadav did well to see India through. As the green covering on the pitch indicated, it wasnt the easiest wickets to bat on. South Africa was reduced to 30 for five inside the PowerPlay, but despite having Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli early on, the South African pacers were unable to replicate their Indian counterparts. Spinners Shamsi and Maharaja also gave up runs, each conceding 48 in 5.4 overs. Thats all we have for tonight! Join us in Guwahati for the second T20I on October 2.

As a batting unit we failed to apply ourselves in those conditions. We didnt expect the pitch to play this way. Yes we expected it to be spicy but normally you will be able to hit through the line in this part of the world. Seamers needed runs behind them to defend. They tried their best and were supported by spinners as well. I thought we fought well late with the bat. Thats a positive. South Africa skipper Temba Bavuma

The wicket was tricky. You learn a lot playing such a game. You understand what the team needs to do in tough conditions. It was nice to play a game like that. We knew the bowlers would get something seeing grass on the pitch, but we didnt expect help for the full 20 overs. It was still damp. Both teams were in the contest and the team that played better won the game. We started well, got 5 wickets in quick time and that was the turning point. Perfect showcase of how to bowl when there is help for the pacers. We knew it wasnt going to be easy. Got to respect the conditions. Lost two wickets and that partnership between KL and Surya got us home. India skipper Rohit Sharma
