However, before the start of the upcoming series, the host team has suffered a major setback. Captain Jos Buttler has been ruled out of the T20 series due to a calf injury. Jos Buttler has not played any cricket match since losing to India in the semi-finals of the T20 World Cup 2024. He suffered an injury while preparing for The Hundred in July, which ruled him out of the tournament. After weeks of rehab, he was set to return for Lancashire in the quarter-final match against Sussex in the T20 Blast.
Lancashire coach Dale Benkenstein said that Jos Buttler's injury has become very serious and he will not be available to play. Speaking on ESPNcricinfo, he said,
"We have had some bad news about his recovery, he had an injury that he was recovering from but his injury has become more serious. He is not only out of our T20s but I think he is also struggling to play in international matches. He was very keen to play for us."
