Shubman Gill missed the chance to topple Babar Azam for the World No 1 batter in ICC ODI Rankings. Indian Cricket’s Prince entered the India vs Australia series needing just 200 runs to become World No 1 for the first time. With a 74-run knock in the first ODI, he smashed 97-ball 104 in the IND vs AUS 2nd ODI in Indore. But he fell just 22 runs short. He will now have another opportunity in Rajkot and all he needs to do is score 22 or above to take the crown going into the World Cup 2023 as the World No 1 ODI batter.

With the World Cup yet to come, Shubman Gill is undoubtedly aiming for Sachin Tendulkar's record for the most runs in a calendar year. This was his fifth century of 2023.
With 857 rating points in the ICC ODI Rankings, Babar Azam is currently ranked as the best hitter in ODIs. With 814 rating points, Shubman Gill is ranked second. The only need Shubman Gill has is 200 runs in three innings. He has two half-centuries already.

Babar Azam, who held the top slot with 857 rating points, was just 43 rating points ahead of Gill before the commencement of the three-match ODI series against Australia. In the first two ODIs, Gill's scores of 74 and an outstanding 104 demonstrated his ability to become the top player. However, such aspirations have been temporarily shattered by his unexpected absence from the third ODI.
