The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 auction was held in Kochi on Friday, December 23, and the four-time champion Chennai Super Kings (CSK) bought seven players. With a bank account of 20.45 crore when the auction began, Chennai departed with only 1.5 crore.

Ben Stokes, an all-around versatile player for England, cost CSK 16.25 crore, and was acquired with great care. The transfer is being viewed as a potential signal of who would captain the team after MS Dhonis expected departure after the 2023 championship in addition to significantly improving the squad. Breaking Deepak Chahars previous record of 14 crore, Stokes is now CSKs most expensive signing in company history.
