BCCI is going to implement new rule in IPL 2023 Impact player

BCCI is going to implement the rule of Substitute Player (Impact Player) in the upcoming season of IPL. According to the rules, teams can change one member of their playing XI during the match.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is going to implement a new rule in the upcoming season of the worlds biggest cricket league i.e. IPL, which will be known as Impact Player. These rules have been seen in sports such as fan football, rugby, basketball and baseball. But it will be used for the first time in IPL.

The Indian Premier League (IPL) will introduce the impact player rule in the next season. This has been confirmed by the Twitter handle of the Indian Premier League. The impact player was introduced in the recently concluded Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Trophy and according to media reports, the IPL Governing Council has decided to keep the basics of the rule the same as of now.

"The BCCI wishes to introduce the concept of Impact Player wherein participating teams can replace one member of their playing XI during a T20 match of the game," the BCCI said in a statement. According to the rules, teams can change one member of their playing XI during the match, if they feel it will be right.

What is the Impact Player rule

During the toss, the captain will have to give the names of 4 such players along with the playing XI, whom he wants to use during the match. Out of these, the team can give a chance to only one player as a substitute.

An impact player can replace any player in the playing XI before the 14th over of an inning. The captain, head coach, and team manager must inform the on-field officials or the fourth umpire about the arrival of the impact player.

If the team loses its wickets early while batting first, then with the help of the Impact Player rule, it can give a chance to an additional batsman as a substitute player instead of a bowler.

On the other hand, if the team does not lose many wickets while batting first, then in the second innings the team can include an extra bowler in the team instead of one batting. However, the player who leaves the field after the arrival of the substitute player will not be able to take part in the match again.
