BCCI appoints Morne Morkel as India's new bowling coach: Former South African veteran fast bowler Morne Morkel has been appointed as the bowling coach of the Indian team. Team India head coach Gautam Gambhir himself had demanded that he wanted Morne Morkel in his support staff. Both of them worked together for the IPL team Lucknow Super Giants i.e. LSG. Morne Morkel's bowling career has been strong and he has been making his mark in coaching as well.
Morne Morkel's contract is starting from September 1. This information has been given to Cricbuzz by Jay Shah, secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). Morne Morkel will start his tenure with the two-match Test series against Bangladesh to be played from September 19. He was going to tour Sri Lanka, but due to being busy in a T20 league, he was not available for the tour of Sri Lanka. In such a situation, BCCI had temporarily sent Sairaj Bahutule to Sri Lanka.
The tenure of Rahul Dravid and company ended with the T20 World Cup 2024. After this, a new head coach was to be announced and a new support staff was to be formed under him. The BCCI had already informed that Gautam Gambhir would be the head coach. He had chosen Rahul Dravid as the fielding coach. T Dilip was retained by the board. At the same time, three other members were given to Gambhir, including assistant coaches Abhishek Nair and Ryan Ten Doeschate and now the bowling coach will be Morne Morkel.
