India is undoubtedly mysterious, given its rich religious and cultural heritage, legendary tales, and undiscovered legends. Many riddles have given rise to tales of ghosts, spirits, and otherworldly occurrences.

Even while many people find the subject of India's most haunted places terrifying, some brave individuals like investigating these frequently abandoned locations in the hopes of seeing ghosts or at the very least witnessing spooky events.

If you fall into the latter category, you're in the correct spot as we'll discuss India's most haunted locations today. Naturally, we will also share the Indian ghost legends that surround these locations since, let's face it, a spooky home would not seem all that terrifying without its backstory.

The Top 7 Ghost Stories Behind Most Haunted Places in India

1. Bhangarh Fort, Rajasthan

The renowned Bhangarh Fort in Rajasthan must be mentioned on any list of the most haunted locations in India. This fort, situated in the Alwar neighbourhood, is both a haunted home at night and a beautiful place during the day.

It has been reported that the people, who were rumoured to have lived near the fort, cry out in desperation when night falls. Additionally, admission is forbidden after dusk (some claim after 5 PM) for this reason. People who don't believe in following the rules, such as some brave adventure seekers, have documented accounts of paranormal activity.

Now for the backstory and explanation of this fort's eerie reputation: rumour has it that the fort was cursed and collapsed to ruins, albeit it nevertheless retains its beauty during the day. The curse was placed by a tantrik or immoral magician who failed to win the fort's princess over. In an attempt to win her over, he also added a love potion to her drink. But the princess immediately hurled the love potion at a nearby boulder after sensing something suspicious.

The tantric was crushed when this boulder fell. The tantric, as he was dying, cursed that the hamlet and fort would collapse, leaving us with the notorious Bhangarh Fort that exists today. Therefore, if you do intend to visit the fort, if you truly dare to confront everything, we suggest going after sunset.

P.S. During the day, the fort is lovely and home to a large colony of monkeys. For your safety, avoid venturing into the woods and bring your camera to try your photographic prowess.

2. Delhi Cantonment, Delhi

The Delhi Cantonment area's tidy, green lanes are among the most haunted locations in the city, yet they also seem rather lovely during the day. But once night comes and the window of opportunity for unearthly encounters opens, the place might appear a little eerie.

The people here have told stories about how, if you're lucky or unlucky, you could see a white saree-wearing woman strolling down the street. It's also said that this ghost chased automobiles at incredible speeds.

Agrasen Ki Baoli, a stunning stepwell that dates back to the 14th century, is a popular destination all year round. Locals as well as visitors from other countries come here for photo shoots and other events.

This 60-meter-long and 15-meter-wide stepwell is situated on Hailey Road. In Delhi, the step well is a well-liked tourist destination on a lovely morning. But as you descend its 108 steps, things start to get eerie and fascinating if you go deeper and trust what ghost aficionados have to say. It's reported that as you descend farther, the strange vibrations and coolness in the air become greater. Additionally, it has been stated that the step well's water is so alluring that many individuals have considered plunging in and ending their lives because of it.

With its menacing moniker, Dumas Beach is thought to be a haunted house for ghosts and apparitions. Going to the beach after a particular hour at night is not recommended. It is stated that in addition to the powerful gusts of wind that blow by the shore, you might also be able to hear countless whispers from the spirits of those who have passed away here.

According to the ghost legends surrounding the shore, this was formerly a Hindu burial cemetery. Known as the "land of tormented souls," it has also witnessed several deaths that were purportedly caused by suicide. It's not a stroll for the timid after sundown. Therefore, we recommend visiting this beach if you're up for a scary experience, but do so at your own risk.

Once home to Maratha nobility, the fort is now the scene of several paranormal events. There are rumours that a prince's kin killed him there. If you are brave enough to visit the fort at night, you may also hear shrieks and screams coming from it. His soul prowls around the fort at night.

Numerous well-known South Indian films have been shot in Ramoji Film City, a sizable film studio similar in size to Universal Studios. But there are rumours that this large movie city turned amusement park is haunted.

Not the entire film city, but some areas of it are said to be haunted, particularly at select hotels where strange occurrences have been reported.

Built atop the Nizams' battlefields, this well-known film city near Hyderabad is rumoured to be haunted for several reasons. There are rumours that the ghosts of the fallen warriors still wander this area. Strange Urdu scrawls have frequently been seen on the mirrors.

On another occasion, the actor filming a scene was struck by a staff boy who was carrying the lights during the play. The staff boy later said that he felt a really strong shove from behind, but that nobody had been seen near him. Cool, huh? The film city, one of Hyderabad's most haunted locations, is accessible to the general public, however we advise visiting during the day.

Once a contented residence for renowned attorney Mr. Vas, the mansion has witnessed several murders of its occupants. It was a very horrible and cruel murder but by no means a justified one.

Doice and Vera are sisters in the novel. When Doice Vas was repeatedly stabbed in her bedroom in 2001, the villa had to be evacuated and, understandably, began to take on the reputation of being one of Bangalore's most haunted locations.
