England is the defending champion and will be captained by Jos Buttler. The final of this tournament, co-hosted by West Indies and America, will be played on June 29. During this, 55 matches will be played at a total of nine venues. Of these, three grounds in America and six in West Indies have been selected for hosting. Team India, captained by Rohit Sharma, will start its campaign with a match against Ireland on June 5. After this, the team will play against Pakistan on June 9 and America on June 12.

T20 WC: Will Rohit Sharma Indian team be able to break this record of 2007 and 2014?

All three matches will be played at Nassau County Cricket Stadium in New York. Team India will face Canada on June 15. The Indian team will come out to end the 11-year ICC trophy drought. Team India last won the T20 World Cup in 2007 and reached the final in 2014. On both these occasions, Mahendra Singh Dhoni was the captain of Team India. Under Dhoni's captaincy, India has won the most matches in a single edition of the T20 World Cup. Will this record be broken under Rohit's captaincy?

India won 5-5 matches in 2007 and 2014

When India won the T20 World Cup in 2007, it played a total of seven matches. Of these, Team India won five and lost one. One match was inconclusive. In 2014 too, when Team India reached the final, it won five out of six matches and lost one. Then the Indian team lost directly to Sri Lanka in the final. In no other edition has Team India won five or more matches. In 2009, Team India was eliminated from the Super-8 round and could win only two out of five matches. In 2010 too, Team India won two out of five matches. In 2012, the team won four out of five matches. In all these three editions, the Indian team was eliminated from the Super-8 round.

Team India lost in the semi-finals in 2022

In 2016, the Indian team reached the semi-finals and lost to West Indies. In this edition, India won three out of five matches. At the same time, in 2021, the Indian team won three out of five matches. The team was eliminated after losing in Super-12. In 2022, the Indian team reached the semi-finals and won four out of six matches. Had to face defeat in two. Now Rohit and company have a chance to break Dhoni's record of winning five matches in any one edition. This year Team India will play four matches in the league stage itself. After this Super-8 will be played. If Team India reaches it, it will play three matches. And then the semi-finals and final match will be played. If the Indian team reaches the final, then Dhoni's record can be broken.

Last chance for Rohit and Virat?

India's most experienced team will be seen playing in the World Cup this year. Not only this, this is also being said to be the last T20 World Cup for Rohit and Virat Kohli. Rohit made his international debut in 2007, while Kohli played his first international match a year later in Dambulla. The next T20 World Cup is in 2026, which will be jointly hosted by India and Sri Lanka, but then Rohit will be 40 years old and Kohli will be 38 years old.

The ODI format World Cup will be held a year after this. The strike rate-related nature of the game is constantly increasing and given this, it is difficult to see both of them playing in any of these. Therefore, both Rohit and Kohli would like to leave this stage next month with the winner's medal hanging around their neck. If they succeed in doing so, it will be their second world title after the 2007 T20 World Cup (Rohit) and the 50-over World Cup in 2011 (Kohli). It will be a fitting farewell for two players who have made a huge impact on India's limited-overs cricket over the last 17 years.
