The Esports Foundation (EF) has announced the postponement of the inaugural Esports Nations Cup (ENC), moving the highly anticipated international esports competition from November 2026 to November 2027. The tournament will continue to be hosted in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
The decision follows an assessment of the wider regional situation and discussions with National Team Partners, game publishers and other key stakeholders. EF said the revised timeline will provide greater certainty and stability for teams, players, partners and fans ahead of the tournament.
Esports Nations Cup Postponed to November 2027 in Riyadh
The inaugural Esports Nations Cup was originally scheduled for November 2026, but it will now take place in November 2027.
The Esports Foundation said the decision was influenced by the unprecedented international scale of the competition and uncertainty surrounding the wider regional situation. With participants and stakeholders from more than 100 countries and territories expected to be involved, EF believes additional preparation time will help create the right conditions for the tournament.
Saudi Arabia remains capable of hosting major sporting and entertainment events, with major events continuing as planned.
Why Was the Esports Nations Cup 2026 Postponed?
EF described the postponement as a responsible decision designed to provide stability and clarity to everyone involved in the ENC.
The competition is expected to bring together national teams, leading esports players, publishers and partners from across the globe. According to EF, ensuring the inaugural edition is delivered at the required international standard was a key consideration behind the revised schedule.
The foundation also stressed that the postponement does not represent a change in its long-term plans for the Esports Nations Cup.
Esports Foundation Confirms ENC 2027 Plans Remain on Track
Despite the one-year delay, the Esports Foundation remains committed to the ENC and its broader national esports development plans.
EF confirmed that existing ENC Development Fund commitments to National Team Partners will remain in place. Related ecosystem development programs will also continue during the postponement period.
The organisation will maintain its work with publishers, National Team Partners and other stakeholders as preparations shift toward the November 2027 tournament.
Ralf Reichert Breaks Silence on ENC Postponement
Esports Foundation CEO Ralf Reichert said the decision to postpone the inaugural competition was not taken lightly.
Reichert pointed to the strong response from National Team Partners, publishers, players and esports communities worldwide, highlighting the significant potential of the competition.
He said the priority is to deliver an inaugural ENC under the right conditions and at the level expected from a competition of its scale. Reichert also reiterated that EF's commitment to the tournament and national esports development remains unchanged.
More Than 100 Countries Ready for Esports Nations Cup 2027
The Esports Nations Cup has already built considerable momentum, with more than 100 countries and territories across every continent securing official partner status.
The tournament is designed to bring together top esports players across multiple game titles while allowing them to represent their respective nations.
Beyond competition, the ENC aims to create new pathways for esports athletes, strengthen national esports ecosystems and develop new forms of fan engagement through national pride and international competition.
ENC Development Fund and National Esports Programs Continue
The postponement will not stop the development initiatives connected to the Esports Nations Cup.
EF said the ENC Development Fund will continue supporting National Team Partners, while related programs designed to strengthen national esports ecosystems will move forward.
The foundation will also work directly with its partners to manage the transition to the new timeline and address any changes required because of the 2027 schedule.
What Happens Next for ENC 2027?
Over the coming weeks, the Esports Foundation will continue discussions with National Team Partners, publishers and other stakeholders.
The organisation is expected to provide further clarity on the revised ENC competition calendar, qualification pathways and other tournament-related implications.
