St Johnstone Football Club is a professional football club based in Perth, Scotland. The team plays in the Scottish Premiership, the top tier of Scottish football. The club takes its name from Perth's historic name, 'St John's Toun' (or St Johnstone), and the team is also known as 'The Saints'. The club was officially founded in 1884, and the team played its first match in February 1885. McDiarmid Park has been their home ground since 1989; prior to that, their home grounds were Perth Recreation Grounds and, from 1924 to 1989, Muirton Park. The team first participated in the Scottish Cup during the 1886–87 season and joined the Scottish Football League in 1911–12.
