The Norwegian Cricket Federation (NCF) will host a T20I tri-series tournament featuring the men's national teams of Iran and Uzbekistan from August 13 to 16, 2026. This will be a historic series between two Associate teams from the Asian region. Until now, these teams have primarily participated in Asian Cricket Council (ACC) Asia Cup qualification pathway events; this tour will mark their first overseas trip outside their own region. Notably, the Uzbekistan team made its international debut by participating in the 2026 Men's Asia Cup qualification pathway tournament (50-over format) held in Singapore. Subsequently, they also competed in the T20I quadrangular tournament (Asia Pacific Champions Trophy), which was also hosted in Singapore.
The Iranian men's team was previously seen playing international matches in the 50-over format during the ACC Men's Challenger Cup (an Asia Cup qualification pathway tournament) held in Thailand in 2023. NCF President Yusuf Gilani had already confirmed plans to host the tri-series in June 2026. Having played competitive cricket in the recently concluded 2028 ICC Men's T20 World Cup Europe Sub-regional Qualifier B in Denmark, this T20I series will provide a crucial opportunity for Iran and Uzbekistan to compete against a team ranked significantly higher in the T20I standings.
