Profile:

Sohaib Maqsood is a Pakistani cricketer, a right-handed all-rounder, who bats in the middle-order and bowls off-break. Born in Multan, Maqsood made his first-class debut for his home side against Lahore region in 2004. An aggressive batsman by nature, Maqsood has an impressive average in first-class cricket and a very good strike rate for T20s.

As has been the case with many Pakistan players, Shoaib Maqsood started off as a bowler but then turned into a batsman. Primarily an off-spinner, Maqsood made his first-class debut for Multan Region at the age of 17 but a horrific back-injury kept him out of first-class cricket for the next three years which was a huge blow to his aspirations of becoming a bowler. A determined Maqsood returned to competitive cricket in 2007-08 and impressed as a middle-order batsman but a dip in form followed by an ankle ligament injury hampered his progress further.

The dedicated and determined youngster bounced back hard with consistent performances in both first-class and List-A cricket which helped him find a place in the Pakistan T20I squad for matches in Zimbabwe and subsequently the ODI squad for the series against South African in the UAE. He had a blistering start to his ODI career with two fifties from the first two matches but more importantly, he impressed one and all with his fearless approach and flamboyance.
