Amid the spectacular centuries from Rishabh Pant and Shubman Gill against Bangladesh, Virat Kohli chose to skip his rest day and work on his batting technique. India declared their second innings at 287/4, setting a daunting 515-run target, but Kohli’s performance at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai, was far from ideal.
Playing his second Test match this year, Kohli’s return to the red-ball format did not go as expected. After a poor dismissal for six in the first innings, where he chased a wide delivery off Mahmud Hasan, Kohli was dismissed for 17 in the second innings by Mehidy Hasan Miraz, adjudged LBW. However, replays hinted at an outside edge. Despite Shubman Gill’s advice to use the DRS, Kohli walked back to the pavilion, missing a chance for redemption.
Determined to fix his flaws, particularly against deliveries in the corridor of uncertainty, Kohli hit the nets alongside fellow batter Yashasvi Jaiswal. His commitment to regain form shows his resilience, as India prepares for the second Test against Bangladesh at Kanpur's Green Park Stadium, starting on September 27.
With an average of 29.72 in Asia since 2021, Kohli is keen to reverse his declining home performance. India will be counting on their No. 4 to deliver as they aim for a clean sweep in the series.
